Lisa LaBracio
June 13 – July 12, 2025
Lisa LaBracio is an animation artist specializing in handmade, mixed-media motion techniques. Recently, she has been developing a tactile animation practice that explores working with materials from the natural world. What began as an effort to bring the outdoors into the studio has evolved into a commitment to bring the studio outdoors. While animators are typically trained to plan movements and make decisions early in the process, LaBracio’s collaborations with nature aim to discover natural movements and create a more spontaneous, flexible approach to animation, making the process itself becomes a key part of the final work.
As an animation director, she has created over 40 educational videos for TED-Ed, directed the animated series MetKids Microscope for the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and contributed stop-motion sequences to several feature films. In 2019, she co-directed The Opposites Game, a short film made from hand-drawn charcoal animation inside stop-motion books, which screened at over 50 international festivals, winning multiple awards and earning a long-list spot for the Oscars. As an educator, Lisa has led 100+ animation workshops worldwide. She is also an event director with The Ink Well Foundation, an adjunct instructor at the School of Visual Arts, and co-founder of the NYC-based screening series Animation Speak/Easy. Lisa holds a BFA in Animation from the School of Visual Arts and is based in Brooklyn, NY.
